Oxford University Press released a new book this month entitled Energy and Environmental Project Finance Law and Taxation: New Investment Techniques (Andrea S. Kramer & Peter C. It will be an invaluable resource for lawyers and other consultants who advise their clients about the development and financing of energy projects. This book will also be useful for business people and others who provide services to companies – at all stages of development and production – in the energy and environmental industries.” (Id., xiii-xxi). For his part, John Cogan contributed a chapter entitled “Project Financing of Cross-Border Pipelines: A Study in Comparative Law, Culture, and Political Risk” (Ch. 24, pgs. 599-637) which is dedicated to a discussion of concepts applicable to limited recourse financing of pipeline projects which transcend international borders.

New Energy Law Firm Organized. John Cogan, a forty year veteran of international oil & gas and other major projects, along with three partners announced the formation of a new law firm to focus on the energy industry. Cogan stated, “Our philosophy is to provide our clients with large law firm expertise for the areas in which we practice while, at the same time, providing the personal service of a small firm at competitive fees.  We plan to grow conservatively to meet the needs of our clients but we never plan to become a large firm.”

As one of Cogan’s former partners observed, “John is leaving the practice of the ‘big law firm’ but he is not leaving the practice of ‘big law’.”
